A German language newspaper, produced to track the many German refugees in the from the First World War and the early 1920’s was “Heimkehr”.
Later on, in the 1920’s, this newspaper had an insert: “Mitteilungen des Vereins der Wolgadeutschen”.
This section dealt with the arrival of many Volga Germans to various refugee camps in Eastern and Western Europe.
Many of these articles have been translated and are available on this blog.
For those interested, here is a link to the pdf scans of the publication.
Enjoy!
Came across these posted in a Volga-German forum….will try to track down the original source…but these are definitely Heimkehrlager Frankfurt/Oder
This is a link to an article entitled: “Wolgakinder in Bethel” by Hildegard Kuhlemann. This article appeared in the 2004 edition of the Jahrbuch für Westfälische Kirchengeschichte. It details the orphaned children that were assisted by the German charity known as Bethel…documnting their trip from Russia to German in the 1920’s.
Hildegard alerted me to the link where her article is available in pdf form.
